My painting process appears to be instinctive. However, I studied color and design for years and I know to forget those rules consciously and do what feels right at the time. Later I assess the results and make adjustments if needed.

Artistic skill remains rather a continuing medium or reflection of some step in intuitive development, the perfection which is not to be found in shape and form, but must radiate from the human soul. "Art is the expression of a personal, sensual experience. Anyone can try and paint what they see. I like to paint what I think. I paint what I dream. My artworks are the end result of instantaneous judgment making and stimulation, passion and instinctive construction. As soon the first sign of being manifests itself, I just let go and let my senses take over.

The design of the work and the process of evaluating relationships are foremost in my mind as a non-objective painter. The relationships between warm and cool, textured or busy, smooth or restful, and organic versus the geometric are foremost in my mind. An open form, suggests a threshold or a portal. This element may be related to the architectural settings for which my works are intended. When I finally see something emerge, it is so exciting to be making shapes and marks that provide energy.
