The stars are literally aligning for the upcoming McG-directed “Terminator Salvation.” With rumors of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton lending their likeness and voice talents, respectively, it was only a matter of time before another “Terminator 2” veteran got linked to the project — the dreaded T-1000 himself, Robert Patrick.
In an interview with FEARNet, McG discussed the idea of having Patrick return for an eventual “Terminator 5” as a scientist working to improve health standards for mankind. “Imagine seeing a sixty-year-old Robert Patrick and knowing, ‘Holy sh–! That’s gonna be the T-1000,’” McG declared.
For fans of the franchise, it’s a pretty cool idea to have Patrick participate in the new generation of “Terminator” movies — and even the actor himself is interested in the idea.
“He talked to me about it,” Patrick said in a follow-up interview with FEARNet. “I’m interested. I was listening to him tell me about it. I had no idea that he thought about it.”
As fans of the original movies are aware, Patrick played the villainous T-1000 in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.” The liquid metal shapeshifter was sent back in time to prevent Arnie’s T-800 from protecting John Connor, the eventual savior of mankind. Whether or not Patrick ultimately appears in the new “Terminator” franchise, the actor certainly has a soft spot for the time-traveling robot that launched his career.
“The sci-fi genre, and specifically that character, is something I’m very proud of,” Patrick said.
“It’s what broke me out big to the world. And it’s a character that I’ve lived with ever since, and I kind of carry it with me everywhere I go, for good or bad. So it’s obviously something that’s very dear to me and real special to me. That was a real special time. That franchise means a lot to me.”
